about
The first draft of the song was written by Maz as a birthday present for her backpacking Australian friend Kai when she was 19. She did not have any money so she would write him a song. The song comments on Kai's inspiring travels, youth and carefree lifestyle, marked by the exploration of his sexual and personal identity. A bittersweet freedom that sometimes can get him into complex and dangerous situations.
The song came into its current shape after Maz and Jamie's first encounter in the now closed murky underground dive in Edinbrugh: Henrys' cellar bar.
lyrics
You’re on your phone, conquering Rome
any dark room feels at home
we know the bouncer, he’s our friend
‘cause we stay until the end.
They told you love is black and white
but you've been rainbows every night
hey told you love is black and white
but you bend rainbows every night.
Oh I feel like going somewhere with you
Where the summer ends, somewhere else it begins
We can share a towel, we can share our sins
Fill me with fresh air, I’m so empty within
I’m already lost, let’s go where you please
We get too much sleep, let’s get somewhere cheap
Where we’re never sad, and everybody’s just as mad (aah ah ah aaah)
Do you remember (Aaaah)
When you almost died
The wizards frowned, the wombats cried.
Do you wanna be my spirit guide?
The music hits it takes you on another ride
Never mind tomorrow and the future, and the future, and the future…
And the future and the future and the..!
